What do I think of ambition?
You are not born with it, you must acquire it. It is your dedication to a goal that shows your ambition, at times it may consume you. However, ambition is easily mistaken as willpower. The key difference is the fact that ambition will not sway, willpower can. I often see people have trouble when it comes to being overly competitive or workaholic, and I believe this the result of their ambition being so strong that it overwhelms them and their ethic. It is as dangerous as dipping your being into insanity, the amount you consume is not calculated but forged in random amounts.
Your sitting there playing blackjack, this is your ambition. If you bust you lose, if you lose to the dealer you lose. If you win, you win. Ambition is such a gamble.
When you get ambition you are ambitious. Google defines it as "Intended to satisfy high aspirations and therefore difficult to achieve". It needs to satisfy high aspirations, anything lower will drive your very being to change in a less desirable person.
You will annoy people, you will be ousted if those goals you set your ambitions towards are small.
A simple search engine search for ambitious people describes people completing great feats, however there are those who were ambitious but do not get recognized but rather ousted. Scientists are a perfect example, their methods and goals are huge but it is questioned whether it is "good" or "bad". Methods to make the greatest disease is used to also make the greatest cure, is it safe?
Ambition, use to your discretion.

A quick start review on Oda Nobunaga
Born on June 23, 1534, Nobunaga lived a bizarre early childhood that dubbed him "The Fool of Owari". His early life composed of curiosity of culture outside Japan and firearms, specifically Tanegashima firearms. His friends were people that were a mix of different social classes. At his father funeral he threw the ceremonial incense at the alter, furthering the "The Fool of Owari" view people had on him. People drew away from him and even his mentor Hirate Masahide commit seppuku.
So he changed.
The Oda clan divided and his brother, Nobutomo Oda, seeking his defeat, Nobunaga appoached his first battle. Nobutomo was ultimately killed however in the process Nobunaga had Nobutomo younger brother and another ally to undermine Nobutomo. Later his other brother Nobuyuki seeked to also undermine Nobunaga. This also failed and with killing his brothers, he ended all opposition by 1559 in his clan. From here would take the world stage at the Battle of Okehazama.
He rallied 3,000 troops to launch a surprise attack on the Imagawas clan of 25,000. The weather was stormy and the troops of the Imagawa were celebrating a victory, so their flank was open and their position in a narrow crossing provided a successful raid. Yoshimoto Imagawa was killed in this battle and his clan rapidly weakened. An alliance was made with Ieyasu Tokugawa, who were under Imagawa control before the battle, and Nobunaga would also meet Toyotomi Hideyoshi. These two would be he successors.
